How WPM Is Calculated
WPM usually converts characters to words by dividing by five, then divides by minutes. Errors reduce net WPM; gross WPM alone overstates performance. Compare accuracy, text difficulty and duration together.
Three measures
Gross WPM: all typed characters divided by 5 and minutes.
Net WPM: correct characters divided by 5 and minutes (this tool).
Accuracy: correct characters divided by typed characters.

Compare only the same text and duration.
Below 95% accuracy, slow down first.

Do spaces count?
Yes; common formulas count spaces.
Is 60 seconds always higher?
Not necessarily; short tests favor bursts, longer tests favor endurance.
